Kristina Dimitrova
“I am thankful for my life, for my family, for everything. I am thankful I am alive,” shares Kristina Dimitrova, a sophomore at AUBG.
Kristina Dimitrova is an optimistic and kind 20-year-old, who comes from Kyustendil, a town one hour away from Blagoevgrad. Although it is quite small, she loves her hometown a lot as it holds many special memories in her heart.
“I had a very happy childhood,” she recalls fondly. “I remember being constantly out, playing hide and seek with my friends.”
Since she was young, Kristina has been part of a Bulgarian folk dance group and even though she is busy with college, she still continues to dance because she can’t “go without it.” She has tried a lot of things before that including volleyball, athletics, modern dancing and hip hop. However, she never felt passionate towards them, not like she is with Bulgarian folk dance.
“I just fell in love. It helped me learn a lot about my culture and traditions. Every dance shows some kind of story, every little move represents something,” she explains. “It made me fall more in love with my country.”
Besides dancing, Kristina likes going out with her friends, hiking and most importantly she loves passing time doing nothing but relaxing.
“If I don’t feel like working, I just lie down and do nothing. It doesn’t matter if I get behind and have to pull an all-nighter. If I am in one of those moods where I just want to chill with myself, that’s what I do,” she says smiling.
In AUBG, Kristina is planning to major in Business Administration, and Journalism and Mass Communication.
“I am so happy that I am here at AUBG and I am so grateful for the people I have met. They are the ones making my college experience special,” she expresses cheerfully.
Kristina talks about her family with the same enthusiasm as they are the ones that support and inspire her in many ways.
“My parents encouraged me to be a good person to everyone. They have taught me the values of life. My sister,” she continues, “is like a role model to me. She has gone through so much, but has always pushed through. She motivates me to never give up.”
Although Kristina still doesn’t have a clear idea of her future, other than making sure she graduates AUBG, she is confident in one thing. “For me, happiness is more important than success. I want to enjoy what I am doing. My goal is to be happy.”
